AV-nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) is a type of abnormally fast heart rhythm. The fast rhythm is because of the presence of dual accessory pathways which are located near the AV node that causes the heart to beat prematurely. One pathway is slower while the other is fast which causes the signals to move faster or slower than the usual rate. The main symptom of AVNRT is the sudden development of rapid regular palpitations, fluttering sensation in the neck, and dizziness. The heart rate is mostly between 140 - 240 beats per minute. Most people with atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia do not require medical treatment. However, if one experiences prolonged or frequent episodes, make sure to visit the doctor. The doctors may prescribe certain exercises to stop an episode of AVNRT depending on the seriousness and the damage caused. In severe cases, medication will be prescribed.
