Junctional rhythm refers to an abnormal heart rhythm that results from impulses that come from tissues in the area of the atrioventricular node, or the junction between the upper and lower chamber of the heart. The node that controls the heart is not able to work properly, this usually happens in case of a blockage somewhere in the heart pathway. Usually, when the person has a Junctional rhythm the atrioventricular nodes (the node that coordinates the top and bottom chamber) take the place and start working as the pacemaker.
